STAGES OF A PAINTING

Below are the various stages of a watercolour painting depicting a Venom STAGE 1

The aircraft has been drawn in pencil and then the background sky and landscape added using watercolour. The clouds were enhanced by adding in some places washes of white gouche paint, followed by washes of watercolours until the the effect you see is achieved. Finer detail of the landscape is finally added, like trees, buildings and water to add light effects.

STAGE 2

Next the basic colour wash using layers of watercolours is applied to the two aircraft.

STAGE 3

Further washes of watercolours are laid down on the aircraft main areas until the density is increased. Working of darker and lighter areas is carried to comence creating the 3-dimentional effect of the aircraft

STAGE 4

Further watercolour washes are applied to the foreground aircraft and this enhanced with 'extra body', achieved using some white gouche paint washes. Then more watercolours are added and this repeated until the aircraft demonstrate the correct intensity, colour tone and shadowing of light against dark. Fine detail is then added using watercolours.

STAGE 5

The background aircraft is worked by applying the same techniques as the foreground aircraft. Then finally the painting is ' fine tuned ' by adding more details and further work on intensity to completion.
